BIO PHILIP RACHID
Philip was born in Sofia, Bulgaria (1978) and raised in Amsterdam, The
Netherlands. With his Bulgarian and Iraqi Kurdish roots, he always had an
international background and perspective.
He was introduced to the culture of Hip-Hop as a rapper in his teens. After a year of college he decided to voice his expression through the performing arts. His acting and filmmaking career stared at the age of 19, which has included numerous leading parts in series, short and feature films, numerous guest appearances on TV series, theatre plays and his most recent credits include one of the main characters on the award winning Dutch drama series “Vuurzee. “
SoulTrotter began Bboying in 1999 and has a deep understanding of the
Hip-Hop culture. He’s travelled all over Europe, Asia and the U.S. Some of
his experience consists of photo shoots, organized competitions, workshops
and performances for adidas Europe, Nike, Lee, Levis and Reebok,
and Footlocker as well as performed with artists such as Kurtis Blow, Afrika
Bambaattaa and MC Lyte to name a few.
In 2002, he started his own production company, Soultrotter Productions, with the sole intention to conceptualise ideas and produce quality productions that raise awareness and consciousness about worldwide cultures and movements, their art forms, thus uplifting the understanding and knowledge of these cultures while including the key people.
His productions have been showcased worldwide and on national Dutch TV. A few of the highlights of Soultrotter productions :
- Writing/producing and directing a series of shorts called 360 for KINK TV/Veronica (2002)
- Writing/producing and directing The Pimp series, which made it to the MTV Short Film Competition finals (2004)
- Writting/producing and directing the Funky Fighter series for MTV NL in (2005).
- Directing the video artwork for a German/French theatre play Seul Ensemble (2007).
- Soultrotter’s short films broadcasted on KBS, Korean national TV(2007).
- Writing and directing a theatre play “Koning Koopavond” (2010).
