Soultrotter is founded by Philip Jamal Rachid an Iraqi-Kurdish and internationally awarded director who began his film and television career as a reputable actor in1997 with television series and films filmed in the Netherlands.

 With 25 years of professional experience, Philip has written, produced, and directed for Endemol, MTV, and VPRO TV and worked with Grammy, Emmy and Oscar nominated team members.

 Since landing in UAE 13 years ago, his short films received critical acclaim and won over a dozen awards in motorsport, thriller, humanitarian and documentary categories.




His edgy and dynamic style that pushes traditional boundaries of genre are distinguishable hallmarks of Philip’s mastery of visual storytelling.   

In 2015 he was part of the UAE delegation at the Cannes Film Festival.In 2021 a panel member of the UAE film panel in the cultural exchange between China and the UAE. 

In 2022 he was an integral member of the UAE cultural delegation at the Smithsonian Festival in Washington DC.

Philip has been commissioned by The Louvre Abu Dhabi, The crown prince office Dubai, The Arts Center at NYU in Abu Dhabi, 421 Arts Campus to name a few.Through workshops and lectures at Ministry of Youth & Culture UAE, NYU, SPAA, SAE, 2454, ImageNation, PMO office, Sorbonne, Global Media Congress and 
various festivals he keeps shaping and mentoring the new generation of film makers and artists in the UAE as he has done for the past years .
